It’s COLD in Munich (and all of Bavaria, really)

I ca’t believe how cold it is this Oktober. We had a beautifully warm Oktoberfest and then October hit and the temp went from highs of 75F to 40F. We’ve had snow down at Neuschwanstein (I hate it when there’s snow down there, kinda makes things miserable…and illegal to get to Mary’s bridge, which everyone WANTS to go to….so…it sucks). We don’t normally get this weather til at least late November.

Anyways, the tour numbers have finally dropped a little bit and that is a nice thing for me (not for the company, of course). The huge tours were starting to wear me down.

(by the way, these pictures were taken from where I was sitting while reading my book, I didn’t get up and compose the shots or anything…I just enjoy this view all the time)

Hi, is it already snowing in Neuschwanstein? May I know which other areas are closed other than Mary’s bridge when it snows? I’m going to tour to Munich soon, am hoping I could see all of this castle. Hope it won’t turn out to be disappointing.. =(

It snowed in mid October and it lasted a few days, there is no snow there now. Unless it’s January or February, it’s pretty unlikely that there’ll be snow there.

If there is snow: the bridge and the entire path to get to it is closed off…also, no buses go up. Horse-drawn carriages (although in my opinion ALWAYS a bad idea) run if the drivers feel like it, but alternatively walking is the only way up (to the castle it’s only about a 20-30 minute walk).

    Hi mike,
That’s relieving to hear! At this time of the year, the castle closes at 4pm right? Do you think it is possible to visit both Neuschwanstein and Linderhof castle in one day?

Linderhof is a full day trip on its own, there is no way I would ever attempt both in one day. I’ve also never met anyone who was happy after they tried. …and I’ve met a lot who have tried.
